Getting the news that you are would-be-parents is both exhilarating and overwhelming. There are so many items you would want to secure before the baby arrives, and with good reason. Of course, this is understandable as no parent would want their babies to have a mediocre welcome. Sometimes our excitement for our bundles of joy effectively blurs the distinction of must buys from wants.

That is not to say however that you should be too miserly. You have to remember that infants are rather frail and are very much dependent for their needs. Their body’s systems and defenses are not fully developed yet which would necessitate great care on your part. Simply put, your decisions should not be merely influenced by the price tag on these items. You have to consider if the items are safe for your baby to use, and if these are durable enough and would not chip off and harm the child.

Some items may be dirt cheap but they can also be too flimsy or even contain substances, like lead, which will have adverse effects to your child’s health. Try to select those items which are reasonably priced and those made by reputable companies. If you really want to save on infant care you can ask from friends and family members if they have items which they can hand down to you, like cribs, carriers or strollers.

You can also go bargain hunting in you favorite retail stores or get some tips from magazines that usually have info about ongoing promo deals and pages of baby coupons which you can use on your next purchases. Some shops even have promotional campaigns that provide their frequent buyers with free baby stuff like towels, feeding bottles. Even hospitals are beginning to give free baby samples as a welcome package which typically includes bathing and other hygiene products.

Interestingly, you can also find these free baby stuff online. There are instances when websites give free baby samples as a way of thanking parents who sign up for their newsletters or for those who have referred friends to the said site. Aside from getting up-to-date information about their products and tips on child care, you also get to have free items. There are also a lot of websites online that aggregate or post baby coupons which contain alphanumeric codes you can enter to at checkout to avail of discounts or other great deals. More than any product though, your presence will always be the one thing that your child needs.
